It happens here too butI watched a documentary on those villages in Italy and Spain. Some people were restoring the houses and living in them. Here we have two main issues for abandoning property. The first is people, mainly young people, don’t really want the country life. They prefer the city and being able to make money. Being a poor farmer and working hard for a buck went out of style here’s as well.
The second reason is inheritance issues. The house in the pic is abandoned and sitting there because it was inherited by multiple siblings and none of them will budge an inch on what to do about the house. The younger generations actually don’t want to inherit because they have to pay tax. Lol.

I just never thought entire city's would be abandoned like some of Spain is.
Homes and farms here are tied up in heirship
Usually one family member is demanding everything.
Back in 1985 there's a house I used to put up hay around it
It was like a island in a hayfield it was perfectly immaculate
The older couple had passed away in the 70s
To this day it's rotting away
The last if the heir's recently died
And the new owner is going to finally tear it down.
