You sure you don't work for RefiningNZ? We seem to have perfected replacing perfectly functional gear with overpriced inferior stuff that subsequently needs more money spent because "your's is a unique situation"...no wonder we're going under.

Our engineering department is generally who orders the *s-word. We pay bottom dollar so we get the freshest of the fresh engineers and then load up the department budget.

@Dream these are probably the largest in the plant. Injection molding area. The dies in the stamping area might be heavier but they're not physically as large. Well i can't unsee the adult tricycle. Pretty common on our site too for the tradies who have to carry a lot of gear (and one big South African lass who "couldn't ride a bike"). Bicycles are infact the preferred method of travel due to the spread out nature of the place.

Wheelies are frowned upon though. Don't ask...

We just fixed a couple large aluminum $17k heat exchangers for a hay press. First we fixed the replacement that got stabbed with a fork, and then we repaired the one that originally failed and started leaking. Cut the tanks open, weld the leaking tubes shut, weld the tanks back up.

The exchangers we make are no longer repairable. When I started it was copper/brass and the "new" aluminum(at this plant) could be re-fluxed and brazed, some by hand. Six years ago when I came to this department we bought all of the tubes extruded by another company. Now we mostly craft our own out of not much more than aluminum foil coated with flux and folded together. It's neat but relies on a lot of *s-word to go right. It mostly does but not at the rate it used too. Less people are involved but guys like me are more important now... and it doesn't make me feel good to say because my skills ain't special.

I take a Workman a few times a month if I have a lot to haul. Never a wheelie but up on two wheels all the time

At the actual leak point or just bang a plug in the ends of the suspect tube and hot-glue around it David? We bang tapered plugs in to the massive steel ones in the plant to remove leaky tubes from the circuit. We have one with 15% of tubes plugged....

meh that’s pretty common tree work. At least in my experience. That guy got extremely lucky though. He nearly overloaded his rigging point. I would have rigged from the same point and swung to the same LZ but taken that in 3 pieces. Would have been safer and taken no more time.

More of an oil cooler...big flat aluminum extrusions sandwiched and furnace brazed. We'd weld the ends of the offending extrusions shut inside the tank.

The line clearing crew was rolling with a Husky 395 and a 36" bar. Man that thing was light!
Plastics and all the screws fell out!
