Got the steel fireproofed. Time to patch some holes in rhe precast concrete today. View attachment 278725

I have asked every time I see that and no one has ever been able to give me a good explanation. What part of that steel beam is going to burn? What does that fireproofing actually accomplish?

The paint on the steel will burn. Also, think of the fire proofing as insulation to protect the steel from becoming hot enough to lose its strength and collapse in the event of a raging fire.

Good question.
The purpose of the coating is to limit the heating of steel during a fire. Simply to reduce the complications of a firefighting operation. I have sprayed many engine rooms on ferries with a special mass for it. But, that's what I think it's for.

Not that the steel will burn. To keep it from reaching the point of failure in event of fire. But we saw that doesn't always work as un the case of the twin towers on 9/11. Heavy shock will knock it off and then no protection left. But not much will burn in this building.
