It was being held in place between the caliper and rotor, and fell apart when I removed the caliper.
I knew they were getting worn and was time to replace.

Absolutely on the brine thing...didn’t do it to this one though. Seasoned it overnight before it went on. Fat cap up on this one, gonna lay a zig-zag bead of mustard across the top in a few hours...adds the perfect taste to the bark.
