That's before my time there. I never built DMR hoist. I built 700 and 800 series. built end trucks and gear cases, trolleys. I did paint and build skids for DMR hoists at one time.
That one had an Eddy-current motor on it. Brake/gearbox housing has been updated to a newer DC brake system. Not sure if there was a mechanical load brake in that upgrade, but it held up 4500 pounds of scissor lift with a trashed wet brake, so maybe.
Elberton GA is a long-term testing grounds for cranes and hoists. 3M was bought by Dresser Corp a long time ago. They were in turn bought by CM, who you worked for a long time ago as well. This thing is still getting punished every day, and its older than both of us.
Useless fact.
Alton Shaw built the first electric hoist with a General Electric DC motor designed by Thomas Edison.
He did it for Henry Harnishfegger and Roger Pawling. Not long after they incorporated as the P&H corporation of Milwaukee WI.

I don’t have Tors phone number, unfortunately. We brushed on maybe getting together for a cup of coffee very briefly a long time ago. Never got any further than that.

I have his address if that helps somehow, some way.

Astroglide(or clear 77) is a wonderful thing!
Can't remember how many feet of wire I pulled, but my back and shoulders seem to indicate A LOT.

They have those big pullers at work. Using 3/4" double braid rope to bring service wires in. Lube in a 5 gallon bucket. Those guys know how to party.

That crane didn't beat you too bad today did it?
Cranes.
20 of those ragged out, cobbled together bastids.
Guy that was helping me came over and got me about 4 this afternoon to look at one he was inspecting. He said it didnt sound right.
He was correct. Its a 45 ton with a 25 ton auxilliary hoist.
Static stepless controls.
That's the WORST thing they could have here.
NOBODY understands how to work on it. Only one besides me that might is dead now, and they aint gonna pay me or my company to fix it.
That thing is SO fugged...

Capstan-style tuggers have been around for many moons. Most need to be anchored down or bolted/fastenned in place to pull the big stuff or for long pulls. That little guy would eliminate a helper or two if it works as advertised.
And yeah, get some long gloves and just mop on that lube baby! Like oil wrestling a pig...
Or so ive been told...:D

Wife says i got issues every day. That's why I'm sleeping in the chair with Dan by my side. He doesn't judge as harshly as the redhead.
Now I understand John.
You never mentioned she wuz a ginger.
You must be a man of great patience and understanding.
That wasnt an assumption on your character. Its a requirement. Stay strong brother. Those are truly wild creatures, but SO wonderful!
