Regarding the new “mini” kit per the site
  • No trimming on MS661
  • Minimal shroud peg removal on MS500i
With the original kit you did have to dremel out the shroud as you stated.

Interesting there is a kit coming out for the 462, 362/400.

So is my understanding of how max flow systems operate on a 500i obsolete and old news or do I pretty much have it figured out ? I don’t wanna give anyone bad information.

I think you are correct in regards to the original kit and having to trim the shroud. I believe the issue is the soft suspension the 500i has with long bars and it allows the cover and shroud to contact when the suspension flexes. I think stiffer suspension helps remedy this but not for certain.

I'm a big fan of the WCS suspension kits, I've even mixed and matched the pieces in the kits to fit in other saws, but we can discuss that elsewhere, you can get the girls pretty sore with off topic conversation.

I’m obviously not a Stihl guy, what is the reason for all Stihl’s needing filter upgrades? Is it a performance issue or a *s-word digestion issue?
