Picked up a new project. A 288xp, needs a little love but does start and run. The question I have is with anti-vibe, I looked through several IPLs and found 3 different anti-vibes 2 rubber, hard and soft and 1 spring.
Can one use the spring for all the 6 locations or would it best to use all rubber? Neither way is cheap using OEM parts. This saw doesn't have the big mount on the front by the way.

Nice find, Jeremy. It's early and my memory's fuzzy ... LOL.

IIRC, the springs are the softest option.

The 288 Lite had springs and no large front AV spring.

The 288XP had the rubber mounts and the large front AV spring.

That being said, I thought the AV mounts were NLA from the dealer (the rubber ones also fit the 262, BTW). I bought AM ones from (site owner) HL Supply for my 288 project. Affordably priced and feel quite firm.

I have a 2000 model 288 lite that I got from a friend and he bought it new. It's got all original parts on it as he never used it much, even the bar is original. Anyways, the way it's set up is with springs on the 4 rear mounts and rubber for the 2 front mounts.

All springs is floppy on longer bars. I prefer 2 rubber up front and springs in the 4 by the trigger if it has the big front spring. I'd probably do 4 rubber if it doesn't have the big front one

More than likely wear a 24" bar, because its what I have extra. When I get off call I will dig into it more.

I just bought a set of the small AV springs for the rear 4 mounts off partstree. The front mounts are larger and only have rubber options.

I prefer the spring rear 4, no fronts and the large spring off the front. Seems to be just fine for a 32" bar, not too soft. I've run with rubbers all around and the large spring and they are too stiff then.

Finally figured out the picture thing. Not the worst looking, but starts, easy enough to get parts for, and I need another big saw like another hole in the head.

I like that feeling. I had stihls first in the 70cc and up and got used to the solid feeling. I like spring AV for comfort but I don't like it flopping around like a 372 does with a 32" bar.

I dont like the floppiness of the springs, i swapped them all out for aftermarket hard rubber mounts. Nice and solid now.

But I like to cut wood and be able to feel my hands at the same time.

I use the 046 for falling stuff. Then it's husky or dolmar for the rest usually.

Until I can't cut it from both sides with a 20" it's the 562 called to action.
