I read were husqvarna modified the 550xp top cover to provide more ventilation and cooling.

Can anyone post picture of the new and improved cover?

Anybody ever use frog skinz on this cover to help with ventilation and if so, where do you put them so as not to interfere with the engineered air flow?

It looks like there should also be a small vent above the muffler deflector plate on the cylinder side.

Is the starting issue absolutely caused by over heating???

Anyone know for sure???

I try to avoid cutting when it is super hot out, I don't cut for a living. If I did, I would probably stick with a 346.

I think part of the problem has been overlooked. Look where the fuel line lays from the tank. When the saw is shut off the supply fuel is trapped between the carb and air filter with heat soaking it.
I don't do it, but the manual does state to purge before any start. This would move cooler fuel through the system.

A better design would put the fuel line towards the bottom of the carb compartment instead of the hottest area of it.

No proof, just my musings!

My son cut this tree up today. He made sure to shut it off and let it sit 5 minutes half way through the tree. It restarted one pull on hi idle. He then shut it off every time he had to move brush. It started every time one pull on high idle. His saw is a 2016 model, at7 carb, has the redesigned cover like above. Running husky canned fuel. Temp today was 83°F.

Maybe the canned fuel has something to do with it?
