I have had several pet rats. They can be very intelligent critters. One I had would go everywhere in my hood of my sweatshirt. I forgot she was with me on a trip to the food store. I made a it a very quick visit. They don't like the air compressor kicking on. I found out they can fly off my shoulder.
Wife's friend gave her a young chinchilla about a month ago. Well he had to have a companion so I went with her to get one. She bought four females. Next day, we drive to Cleveland TN and buy a male ebony violet. He and 2 of the females are in a $600 cage. One of the other females had 4 babies Christmas day- 3 females and a male. Now were up to 10. Kari's been supplementing the runts feeding with goat milk. Last weekend she decides to join a chinchilla forum (who'da thunk it). Monday I find myself riding passenger in my truck up to Johnson City. Came home with 6 cages and 13 more chinchillas. (Im thinking this is getting stupid now). Tomorrow at 1 we are going to the top breeder in this area's, house to see what he has. He has several champions and has imported blue diamond carriers from Denmark. Last night ordered more cages from California. At this point, Im just trying to monitor purchases and rein Kari back in. Why can't she like chainsaws?
what really complicates things is I have a Jack Russell, a Jack Russell/Schnauzer mix, and a mountain first (all females) that are going bat Sh!t crazy with all these chinchillas in the house.
