Been getting a few minutes to play around with the two saws from http://opeforum.com/threads/ms461-r-o-what-else-fits-and-issues.1984/.

The one that had a bad tank, got the tank off the one that was supposedly scuffed up or part-seized, and now it doesn't run worth beans. Starts idles, revs up, but as soon as you apply a load, if sharts and dies.
Seems to have followed with the carb off the poor runner from before the parts swapping started.
Pulled the impulse side off the carb and it was half packed with sawdust. Figured a fuel line, filter and carb kit was a cheap possibility.

On the other side, the engine which was supposed to be part seized, got a new tank/handle assy (local shop, paid retail, about what it would have cost to buy one off ebay, by the time I paid exchange and shipping), and now THAT one runs like a top. Still have not pulled the top end off, but a peer through the ports could not find any sign of any scuffing.

So. When I went to order a carb kit, initially they came up with a Walbro K10-HD, but then they got all twitterpated over that their cross reference was not able to come up with a carb rebuild kit that applied to this particular model, being an Arctic, and all.
They quoted me for a complete carb, or I could pick and choose my way through ordering one part at a time from the parts list, but they said their cross references did not cover the Arctic MS461 or some such.

Anyways, I took the Walbro kit they originally had come up with, K10-HD, but figured a fella should ask. Anyone know if the carb uses anything special, or is it just a screwy cross reference? Mentioned something about the serial numbers (aw heck, had them written down, paper gone), maybe making a difference, or maybe not.

Failing a resurrection from the install of the fuel system parts and some fresh gas (again), I will pull the flywheel and check the key, and other such things, but for now, just wondering if the carb kit is supposed to be different or not.

Thanks!

Yeah, the shop wasn't sure, as their books didn't cross over the carb to a Walbro Kit. I could not see why the factory would do something different or strange, but then...never know.

Did not seem to be any logic as to why not, though. They were a bit baffled too. Told them I would report back with results.

I figured that grabbing the kit was a low enough risk to take.

Alllllllrighty then!

Note to self. Slap yourself, self, if you ever assemble another saw without checking the impulse hose AFTER you tighten everything up!!!

DoH!

That was annoying! Funny, but annoying, considering I had read a post here, about just that, and said to myself, "Self, y'all better remember to take a good look at that impulse line when you put those halves together!"

I had the line on while the parts were most of the way assembled, and must have tweaked the line back off again while lining things up and installing the screws in the vibe mounts.

Feeling dumb, dumber, and dumbest, but also pretty happy that I appear at this time, to have two running MS461 Arctics, to clean up.

Took me all of about two minutes to fiddle it back into place with the ends of two screwdrivers, one in from each side.

Ran much better. :D

Carb kit dropped in with no problems, needed a clean out in there anyways as there was sawdust in both sides. Needle valve looked OK, but got swapped out for a new one, as it was in the kit.

New fuel filter went in too, though the old one was not in too bad shape, from what I could tell. Cheap insurance.

Really, really REALLY big thank you to you all for your help, information, and all the knowledge that is shared. Thanks!

Cheers
