I cannot justify spending $150 on a starter.
So curious if anybody has any luck with aftermarket?
I’m already $300 into the build, I want to save a few bucks!
On eBay, some are being sold for cheap, but have cracks and look really really worn out.

They work for a while. If you use the saw occasionally, then it would probably be fine. If you are using every day to earn a living I would buy an OEM replacement, or rebuild with OEM parts.

I've got a used OEM starter assembly I'll trade you if you want to send me a PM.

If the saw ewally means that much to you, go OEM. If it doesn't, go A

Sounds like I’m going to need oem. Thank you for the info.

I have a couple AM recoils in service, cut the handle off a deposit in the trash.
Then go elasto start handle or true blue and there are good to go.
Honestly there's not alot of things that can go bad on that recoil so I don't see the point of spending more than you need?
The AM Husqvarna recoils are a different story though, I've exploded them pulling the handle on a high compression saw .

Yeah I’ve had terrible expirence with husqvarna 500 series mostly but other series as well, husqvarna recoils are notoriously faulty oem as it’s.
I think I’m going to buy internals oem and use a AM outer assembly as you mentioned.
