I was working on a MS182 yesterday and it wouldn't spark. Noticed the coil was about 1/8 of an inch away from the flywheel.
adjusted the gap and got spark, but really had to wip the pull start.
The guy has only had this thing for 9 months still has the price sticker on it. It had to come from the factory this way.
Any one else see this?

I wouldn't think that it would come from the factory like that. Did the saw run at all during those 9 months? Did the store start it when the guy purchased it? If not I would guess that one of two thing happened, but first, when the saws get shipped to the stores, it gets unboxed and put out on the shelf - very rarely will a store sell you one still in the box (unless you waive the warranty or are heading off to be disaster relief and need to fly with it). My guess is that someone brought in a non-working 182 and the new one was pulled off for trouble shooting and replaced when done. Whoever replaced it may not be the brightest and just eyeballed it. 2nd guess is that someone bought it flooded it and tried to do some "troubleshooting" and left too much space when "adjusting" the coil. Frustrated they returned it to the store and the store gave them another and put this one back on the shelf (after draining fluids).

Its my opinion that the 171/2 and 181/2 series are cute little toys.

Agree with you on the cute little toys comment, but this is central Tx. all it has to handle is mesquite trees and juniper bushes and the occasional live oak branch. Maybe put up a 1/4 chord of wood for the 2 weeks of winter :) It did scare the cat when I started it up.
