I just went back and looked through your 880 build thread. Saw that you used the 084 manifold and the hole on the bottom of the Intake port is removed. Through porting and matching the manifold.

Seems to me I could port match the manifold and remove the hole at the beginning and leave the remaining portion that goes into the cylinder. I am not planning on doing any machine work.

I thought the 088 and 084 manifolds where the same. Guess I should have looked at it better. I thought the main reason to change the manifold is the 880 is necked way down at the carb.
Yeah they probably are the same but seems it's some kind off big secret lol
I was just wondering why 084 if they are the same anything with 084 attached to it's name seems to bring a premium in cost.
088 parts are easy to find and not on the endangered species list just yet.

Ok so there might be a difference in early 084 intake boots to 088 intake boots?
Smooth intake walls in early 084's hmm must of been back when Stihl was still learning at lest they got it right with the 088 intake boot.

So I did a little digging in to the intake manifolds for the 084/088/880
084 manifold part# 1124 141 2200
Shows in 85/87/92 IPL
In an 04 IPL for the 084 it goes to a
1124 141 2201. This manifold also covers the 088 and 880 with cast muffler and ht carb.
When the 880 got updated in 09 to stainless muffler and wg carb it switched to 1124 141 2202
The sleeve for the 1124 141 2200 and the 2201 is 1124 141 1800.
The sleeve for the 1124 141 2202 is 1124 141 1801.
Hope this helps on some of the confusion.

Good to see you as well.

In the CFB thread he did on the 880 not long ago he advanced it .020. I am not opposed to taking a little at a time and getting I dialed in. Was mainly looking for a reference point.

Everytime someone mentions recoil kick I always think of the johnny cash song a boy named sue.

880s SUCK to start with a bunch of compression & much T/A after they’ve sat for a while.

I would do what’s already been recommended & see where it is before adding T/A to the equation.
