Going to finally get on to my 880 project. Had a couple of questions. I have heard and seen threads on using a 361 ignition module. I have both the 1300 and the newer 1308 module. Is there a benefit to using one or the other?
Also I have a question on timing advance I have heard some guys go a whole key or more and some .020. wondering what most have done or is it test and tune to find the right spot.

Sorry it's long winded.

When it’s “popping“ or crackling sounding in the cut, you’ve gone too far with timing advance for a worksaw. How much does it take to get there with a 880? I do not know. I know a big saw like that would be difficult to start with a lot of timing advance. Which would probably cause it to kick, a side effect of timing advance on some saws. You could try a little bit and see how you like it... maybe .015 - .020 off the key. You can always put it back to stock.

Good to see you as well.

In the CFB thread he did on the 880 not long ago he advanced it .020. I am not opposed to taking a little at a time and getting I dialed in. Was mainly looking for a reference point.

Everytime someone mentions recoil kick I always think of the johnny cash song a boy named sue.

Also does any know the differences in the 2 361 coils. I would guess the 1300 is unlimited. Just not sure about the 1308 it maybe limited but I am sure it's way above where I need to go for an 880 work saw saw. I was looking through some technical information on the modules and could not find anything.

To me timing Advance is all depending upon what the saw will be used for if your Milling or working very large wood with very long cut times I probably would not mess with timing advance

Yes I am going with the 084 manifold and sleeve and the tillotson ht-12.

From what I understand is that i should leave the timing alone. I was mainly thinking I would have to advance it to make the 361 coil work properly.

No milling. Felling and bucking big trees and stump cuts

Why the 084 manifold are they better than the 088 manifold or something or just the same as 088?
Don't they just put the bigger 088 manifold and sleeve on the newer ms880 along with 088 ht-12 carb?

I thought the 088 and 084 manifolds where the same. Guess I should have looked at it better. I thought the main reason to change the manifold is the 880 is necked way down at the carb.

Ok I can match the port to the manifold. The small hole at the bottom of the Intake port I would assume that it goes away if you match the manifold to the port.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the small hole for anyway.

This is a 084 intake boot on the stock 880 intake.
You can see how small the 880 intake port is in comparison. The saw I ported I removed all that extra and matched the intake boot to the intake port.View attachment 228530

So did you use the 084 manifold or 088 manifold. I would assume you have to port match them either way

That small hole goes all the way into the cylinder. To completely remove it you will be lowering the intake port a lot. I believe it’s only there to help prevent fuel from puddling in the intake.
