Just curious your two cent s on the failure here. There’s the first signs of discoloration of the rod at the top of the it. This is the third rebuild of a massively abused saw. No crank play on either side. Didn’t vac before tear down.

Lean running condition, the color of the plug says it all.

I’m guessing little to no chamfer on the exhaust and/or intake. The ring caught on the down stroke and spit out the pieces of piston into the chamber

I was leaning this way, it wasn’t at a locating pin and that is the exhaust side.

Obviously judging by the carbon on the piston, this saw has been running for a while. Things just don’t all of the sudden break.

The saw got hot and the ring gaps closed.

Or piston broke from heat.

Let me guess you all are the ones who ask around looking for a used oem cylinder.

Just tear the saw down all of the way and replace main bearings, seals and install a new piston and cylinder. Then go through the carb and blow it out, pressure test fuel and impulse line for leaks.

Not lean sharp port edge probably.

What's baffling is how did that damn plug last so long
They don't last no time for me.
