Read the whole thread..I think its got it all, How to ask for, and receive advice, how to derail threads properly, and get it right back on track, and most importantly how to file chain..One SHARP Thread. Maybe the only thing left is to sticky this.

First what I use and do. Then what needs to change? Full chisel only. Usually Oregon 3/8x.50x72ELX whatever hardware is selling brand. I use grandberg guide at 30*x10* cut rakers to .30 profiled. 7/32 file. I can always see edge but file till it's a new fresh edge(4 to 6 strokes). I've used the electric sharpener and chain never seems as good. I read that square filing was for softwood and I cut some real hard stuff(dead elm) but lots of dead ash, oak, beech and maple. I've never done back to back cuts with different chains. This is what I ended up at after over 50yrs of cutting. I'm ready to try your recommendations. Thanks. PS I have four new chains to work on.

Nobody thinks I can improve on my methods? Is 30* too much? Is .030 on rakers too much? What is everyone else using?
