Reminds me of so many of my early life experiences. The sewing machine was a big asset to the family, most of our clothes were sewn that way. There were all sorts of patterns that were available to families to put together a nice suit, a dress or a tough overall. I can still remember the 'fruitcake can' that held all the buttons my grandmother had cut off various old clothes.

Perhaps we are headed back to those times of perseverance.

As a farm teenager back in the early 1950s this evoked very familiar memories. The dark-fired tobacco farm didn't bring in much income so when we were broke, which was most of the time, we cut pulpwood to bring in a few dollars to get us over the hump. I well remember felling and cutting pine tree in the exact same way as shown in the video using a two-arm crosscut saw and axe.

We had a farm tractor plus a horse and a mule so we had the option to use any of the three to snake logs. We used the tractor pulling a farm wagon to haul the pulpwood to the train stop about two miles from home where the load was measured and loaded onto a railroad car all by hand labor as shown in the video. We left physically exhausted but with a check in hand that allowed us to eat again.

In the video was stated the pine logs were cut into 6-foot sections but, if my memory serves me, we cut the pine logs into 5-foot sections.

Thanks for the memories.
