So I’m ordering parts for my project 880. I plan to run a 35” Oregon lightweight bar. It’s a 3003 mount but I’m gonna have a friend with a Bridgeport open it up and set it up for big Stihl 3002 mount. This is a 110 link bar, but since I’ll be running it on a different mount and using a 3/8 - 9 pin sprocket I’m gonna need a custom length. I can run a string around it and measure the string to get total length, but I can’t seem to find the actual driveling length of 3/8 chain to convert that into a drivelink number. Thanks in advance for any help

Maybe put it on the saw and run a longer chain around it if you have any 42" or something. I'd think a 111dl would work, but you could always stretch it with a 8t if it doesn't. Or put the chain on the bar and 9t rim (if it's a tight fit) then mount the set onto the saw. I've done that with a couple tight fits. I like to err on the short side of long bars since more links = more stretch faster.

Take a little off the tail to make your 110dl chain fit.

I agree, won’t throw chains as easy too.

My only concern is how changing to big mount is gonna change that as well. I should have the bar this weeks and will see what we get once the machine work is done. Can I just trim it with a metal bandsaw? I’ve never cut one.

I used a bench grinder on one, then finished with a brown cutoff wheel on a dremel. I was making an Echo brand 27" bar fit 92dl (echo 27" is a half inch longer than any "28in" bar.)

I've used a flap disk to try and keep the curve in the tail.

Most likely will burn the teeth right off of bandsaw blade.

4-6 inch hand grinder is prolly your best bet. You can grind the rough shape then flap disk to the finished Shape

If you have a carbide holesaw the size of the rim and a drillpress, you can just cinch the bar down to the press table, no pilot needed.

Unless his buddy has a CNC mill, that would be ideal. Shape the tail to the rim.

Could I ask why you want to run a 9 pin?
Hopefully you have a well ported 880, otherwise you might be disappointed.

It’s ported by Mastermind. Fairly fresh top end, unlimited coil, ported with 185 psi. It pulls a 41” .404 with authority, so I thought I’d try a 9 pin for some speed when bucking

Thanks for all the advice everyone. The picture makes it much more clear @Deets066 I’ll shoot for something close to that with the final shape.

Good deal, should be a nice setup then.

If you don’t shorten the bar to get a wider tail you almost need to only machine one side of the slot to push the bar up and then taper the tail to match to get the oil hole lined up better. Or put flat spots on the bar studs and rotate them 90 for the 3003 mount bar.
