It wouldn't be hard to test. Take one ported each way, drain the fuel tanks, dump the same amount of fuel in each, and make sustained, repeated cuts until both are run dry.

I wonder if the coil has a temp sensor built in.

There is a temp sensor in the control unit. I had a search here in old posts and found a picture of the diagnostic programm. There the temp sensor is checked electrically during the test. At the end of the test, a protokoll is created with all the availible data. Also the temp of the control unit is shown during data read out. This protokoll is an examble of the test of a FS 460 C-M.

I know my ported 261 (strato intact) goes through a tank quicker than my father-in-law's stocker.

But the question is, does it cut more, less, or the same amount of wood per gallon of fuel?

If it cuts the same amount of wood in less time, all is good. I would not be surprised if it cuts more wood in less time, a win / win.

Damn, my saw is "Out for delivery" from Brewster as of 8:22 am! Wish there was an option for me to pick it up, I'd have it by now!

They don't give me a delivery time, and I have got to go cut some wood ... errrrr!!!!

I have a strato gutted 261oe that I strip down each year to clean & check out. Its got well over 100 hrs and always looks adequately lubed in the bottom end. I run 40:1 Shell Advance 2T mineral FB rated oil. Brad ported the saw and its a strong runner 188psi with base gasket & no compression mods. I have a 555 husky & 550xp (both stock) but I mostly grab the ported 261 first for 16" bar work.

With avoiding the compression jump aka: machine work, were you shooting for less heat in the block overall or to free up the motor?

Well, I was cutting wood this morning with my existing saws, but then, at a little after 3 PM, this came in the mail!!!

So, is "5" the new # designating made in the USA??? Used to be "2"???

So, even though I was cutting elsewhere this morning, I just had to drop a tree on my own property to give this little beast a workout, so I now have one less Elm Tree!

Used the 440 to fell it, and cut it free from one pinch, but the MMWS 261 (Ver II) did all the rest, including the stump cut which was the limit of the 18" bar.

This little Beast is light, fast, and pretty darn strong for a 50 cc saw, I really like it!!!

I like my bone stock 261 a lot already, after only 4 tanks of cut time. I can't wait until I get all my wood stacked for the season and can be free to send it out to be "fixed"! LOL

One thing I'm still working on is that darn clutch drum needle bearing. I found two o-rings that come real close to fitting perfectly, but one of them is just a bit undersized and still lets some grease sling out of one end. I'm getting some of my metric o-rings restocked next week and I believe I'll finally have that bugger sealed up tight as a ducks butt! Gonna swap in a high quality bearing too.

I have been looking at the strato on this carb and can see the benefit of having it.
It is not designed like an airplane wing do to that would cause the air fuel mixture on one side to speed up and on the other side slow down.

By implanting a straight flat strato, it appears to cause extra turbulence on the cylinder end causing the air fuel mixture to further breakdown and give a smaller practical size mixture there-by resulting in a more even burn within the cylinder.

One way to tell would be to inspect the piston on 2 saws. One with the strato and one without. The piston differences should show signs of a better even burn on the one with the strato.

If this is what is happening, then I can see a fuel savings and or better horse power ratio as the end result.

They just build more velocity on the short side turn with the divider. Really simple stuff.

IMHO, a lot of guys read WAY more into some of this stuff than necessary. Furthermore, most of these ideas and theories are impossible for any of us to prove. All I really care about is what works.

I find with the clutch bearing you only want a tiny amount of grease as mentioned above it just gets slung onto the inside of the clutch drum. I have never thought of using an Oring to stop it, but I have an assorted pack so will give it a go. But me thinks it won't last long in that environment.
