We will see.... Once I get access to the CPU / ECU area of this coil, who knows what I will find.
I also have a Carb to go with this and will be looking into the Connectors that are on it for this coil...
hmmmmm......

did ya take it apart yet? did ya take it apart yet???? :icon_popcorn:

One thing that has concerned me after building a few 261s and studying the strato function is if you gut the stratos there "could" be a diluted amount of oil fed to the lower end from the "fuel free" charge coming from the lower side of the carb.

I say "could" because of the 261s Ive built I have kept the stratos intact. The whole point of gutting them is to get more fuel to the top end.

We havent chatted about having less fuel/oil provided to the bearings when the intake is gutted.

I've had gutted strato 261s out there since the first 261 was sold in the U.S. I haven't heard of one problem.

Additionally, I don't see it being diluted. It's all together, all the same charge, the same as any traditionally ported 2-stroke.

So Dan what am I missing??? Are you telling me it can determine the temp by the RPMs with a certain A/F ratio?

What happened to the latest trend on the 661's de- mtronic them? Is that still the go ? If so why not do the same with the 261's

My theory is that it can tell temperature by how the engine reacts to the minute changes it makes in its testing.

Think about a cold engine just started, it seems to react slower to throttle changes, a warmed up engine reacts better. I'm guessing a "too hot" engine would react differently. So I think based on how the engine reacts to its "testing" through the mtronic algorithm, it can decipher how hot the engine is all from rpm feedback.

But that is just my hypothesis. Mayhaps Breesy will shed some light on this with his digging in.

I'm on board with John, if the stratos are gutted, some of the mix is entering the chamber via the strato tunnels, which means less mix is venturing through the bottom end.
Whether this is detrimental to the bearings I have no idea...

Does fuel consumption go up or remain the same when the stratos are gutted?

I believe the perception is that fuel efficiency will suffer, but I don't know of anyone who has actually tested this supposition.

Right. Is it that or just the rest of the portwork? The muff mod? I know my ported 261 (strato intact) goes through a tank quicker than my father-in-law's stocker. Never ran a gutted one to compair.
