Regarding long cuts, have you tried Will Malloff's method of sliding the plank/straight edge/ladder along nails/screws set to the correct height?

I have, but I think I lack the patience. My chainsaw lumber making book has been much read :)

A couple more pics.

Making milling chips .325 style.

And yes I LIKE my rubber / gum boots!

Really like this piece.

Ahhhh your a Kiwi.
Helps you creep up on the sheep haha

I just did a bit of research and I can get a GB pro top 32" for my Stihl 066 and replace the tip with a 325 tip
Or I can get a hard nose and put what ever chain I want on it as long as its .063 for my 084

What would you steer towards mate?

Nah, just a country boy farmer mate :)

Kiwi's and Tasmanian's can keep the sheep ;)

As for the bar, would probably go with swapping the tip. just a couple of rivets. I like the hardnose milling but the .325 is a shallower chain and is harder to stay on the nose of a hardnose rather than sprocket tip.

Honestly though would just start with 404 or 3/8 get some experience and see if you want to experiment like I did.

Finally got started on a crotch slab from same tree. Only cut two though and not to my normal finish. Saw kept flooding and sticking the chain. Think the block I put in the carb govenor has come lose..

Anyway it's Marri flame time

Abit of gum in it. Makes me think of a traditional Chinese(?) Water colour painting.

With any luck it will get better in next couple of slabs.
