Thank you Dan. Just for comparison purposes. Lots of neat new things coming in the near future here. [emoji106]
Saws, chains, etc.

I'm very interested in the 73EXL (assuming 0.058 version of 72EXL) if this is what will replace LGX chain. I really like LGX chain and am very happy with how I can get it to perform when I sharpen with my chain vise plus swedish roller guide and some decent round files.

I hope if they stop selling LGX and only offer EXL I can at least get the same or better performance. Makes me wonder if I would need a new and different roller guide to get the right angles etc.

We have noticed the speed cut narrow kerf stuff the Oregon rep gave us does seem to hold an edge longer in dirty conditions (it's semi chisel) bit I still like 21LPX better in 0.325 and would rather file more often than use the speed cut setup.

That new chain in post 23 looks a lot like LGX. Glad they didn't add bumper guards and stuck with single depth gauge that looks no different than LGX.

It's interesting Oregon used to have a 0.325 chain with no bumpers that looks like LGX chain in 0.325 pitch. I don't remember the part number on the driver link but a buddy has a few older loops. Oregon's chain guide (large PDF of all chains they make with specs) listed the chain and it was superceded by the LPX stuff 20/21/22. I think the part # of the old stuff was thirty something.

Anyway. Hoping the LGX replacement doesn't disappoint!

Stihl RS chain is nice stuff but I like the feel of filing LGX. The RS is too hard... Takes aggressive filling to work the hard steel. Great for holding a point but I like LGX better.

I just looked. The older NLA Oregon chain that looks like LGX but in 0.325 pitch imho has a 34 on the drive link in 0.058. looks like 33/34/35 is the main number from 0.050/0.058/0.063. It is filed with a 5/32" file which I found odd to. Maybe I'll grab some of the old loops from my buddy (he has like 5 loops of it for 16" bar and make it my secret weapon for next GTG. I like it because unlike LPX or BPX it has no bumper guards... Just the depth gauge like the 3/8 LGX. Sorry to turn your thread into a chain discussion Dan but its interesting stuff since chain was mentioned here!

Only other .325 chain I've seen sold as of now without the extra bumpers is the stihl rs33 or whatever it's called. They have it in both .050 and .058, I haven't looked at carlton or some other brands though.

I'll get some loops of that old stuff setup on a 346, 350 or the 50/55 I built for the next gathering and we can compare to others. I really like how it is bumperless 0.325 Oregon.

One reason I avoid it is 3/16 and 7/32 are enough files to carry. Don't want to mix in 5/32 which I would confuse with 3/16 which is standard I use for my 325 chains!

Carlton makes .325 without the bumper, I've been getting it from Ahlborn. I grind it square and it becomes a nasty chain!

If Eric doesn't like Stihl chain because it is hard, he definitely will not like Carlton. The Carlton. 325 stuff I have it very, very hard with lots of chrome. Much harder than Stihl.

Just use your 3/16 file, it’ll be fine. [emoji6]

Yikes Jeff. Yup that is good info thanks.
I'll stick with Oregon and simply file when they lose an edge. After challenging myself to get that chain on the 044 I had (Stihl RS) to be sharp again after the points were rounded over like eagle talons from the guy cutting too many concert jersey barriers with it... I'll stick with Oregon metal ;)

Lol. Next GTG, I will bring a Carlton loop for you to check out. But I like Oregon for the same reasons as you.

I used to run stihl rs and oregon lg 33 in 325. That was till we had the 325 chain build off. I now run 325 lpx and want to check this new xcut out someday. I'm sold on the lgx 325.

Now on the 33 lg I used to use 5/32 and then 3/16 and also square file. It always cut better each change.

Love the cutter on the lgx better and so much smoother in the cuts.

Rs cuts great out of the box but I agree it's harder to file than lgx

Both Stihl and Carlton seem to have more chrome added to the teeth.
Oregon has less chrome.

This may have been answered already....is this saw about the same size physically as a 6100?
slightly smaller. 1/2" shorter in height and length, same overall width but the body of the saw is actually 3/8-1/2 narrower with the recoil being jsut a bit wider to make them end up being the same width overall.
