Hello guys,

Randy just finished cramming extra bananas into my Metal Tag 10mm 044 and I am anxiously awaiting it's return. It's in pretty darn good condition overall, but I would like to replace the "Made in West Germany" Metal Tag for Starter Cover with a nicer one to complete my restoration. NOS would be great, but a minty to good condition one would work to. Please let me know if you have one, if you know of someone who does or where I can source one. I'm glad to be here...

Thanks!
Scott

I have a NOS plate with rivets, but it's a "Made in Germany" one.

Not "West"

Thank you for your reply. I may just take yours as a back up in case I don't find the "West" plate (which is really my goal). Plus I am going to need the rivets regardless. How much do you want shipped to 21658?

Thanks!

The made in Germany ones are still on ebay. I saw them today and they are around $11 shipped with rivets. Let's see pics of the saw!

Dan,

I checked evilBay. The only thing that I saw was plastic "Made in Germany" tags. I'm specifically looking for a "Made in West Germany" metal tag. Maybe my search criteria was wrong (although I tried a lot of different key words). So I am still on the search for one of these metal starter tags. If you or anyone finds one in a evilBay or CL search- please reply/send me the website link. I am open to the idea of buying a whole starter cover if the price is right. If it's mint; I'll use it and if not, I'll just use the tag off of it. My 044 should be on it's way back from Coddle Lane this week :aaaaa:.

Here's a couple of pics as requested for you Dan ;)

I haven't seen any that say West Germany on ebay but the made in Germany ones are there. Wish I could find some if those! I don't know how to post a link but here is the auction.

The saw was pretty strong when I got it second hand. It had lots of torque and a great monotone exhaust note (the open style OEM can has a dime sized opening from the factory). Not as much torque as my 038 Mag II, but pretty close. With a new set of OEM piston & rings and a full port job; Randy feels it will be right on the asss of my MMWS 460. And that saw simply shreds... It's done, so I should know here pretty soon and I'll let ya know. :D

Last I checked there was an 026 NOS starter on eBay UK with the made in west Germany tag, if you're desperate you could buy that then swap the tags and move it on?

be extra gentle in removing the metal tag from a plastic recoil cover, even with the perfect size of pin punch they are a pain to remove without bending the tag ever so slightly
to finally get one off without damage (third cover i tried) I ended up drilling the rivets slowly with a drill press
Search for NOS 024, 026, 034, 036 recoil covers, you may turn one up for $30-40

Thanks for the reply. Do you want to sell the whole cover and if so how much? I have an 064 as well. Maybe I could buy your cover for my 064 and donate my old plate to my 044.
