I did an engine swap on my 300 series McCulloch. Now the flywheel side cover ain't going back on good. Seems the trouble is in the middle top region. And advice on these saws?

Were the two engines identical? I put an AM cylinder on my 261 and had to grind down some fins that it had that the original didn't. Sometimes models from different years may have slight differences which would cause parts to not line up like you would think they would.

I thought so. I can look further for subtle differences. Thx

You might end up having to set the two engines side by side and maybe even use calipers to take some measurements, something just a few millimeters off may be causing the hangup. Might even be something easy to resolve....or not. Hopefully it is.

The engines are the same, the only difference may be the earlier ones use M5 screws to hold the engine to the shroud, later ones were M6. The impulse line needs to be routed through that open hole, and the stop wire properly tucked in and secured behind the cover. The throttle wire also needs to pass the tank in the correct spot to allow the pieces to all slip together.
