If mtronic 2.0 its leave in choke for 90 sec and shut down, if 3.0 its choke for 30 sec then pin full throttle, it will rev limit at 3/4 speed til it has "set", usually another 30 sec. Good times to do reset are after filter swaps, i also usually start the day with a reset, so the saw acclimates to the current weather conditions.

I'm guessing it should be at operating temperature prior to any long duration throttle pinning? So, if a reset isn't performed, will the saw gradually bracket itself into proper tune over time?

It really doesnt matter, as the saw self limits the rpm with a secondary rev limiter, so it is cooling and adding extra oil on the non-ignition event strokes. If the saw doesnt have a reset done, in the course of 10-20 cuts (in my experience) it will find its tune, but may run slightly erratically until then if the reset isnt performed.

It's going to tune itself to where it wants to be no matter the starting point. In other words, it doesn't matter if it starts from point "A" or point "B" it's still going to tune itself to point "C".
A reset really isn't necessary unless there's some sort of malfunction and it needs to be pulled out of its funk so to say to operate normally again. There are times that just a re-start is all that is needed and if not, then a reset should be performed, then if not still, there's a problem that needs repaired before the saw will run right again.

For what it’s worth, I always replace the fuel solenoid and filter first on one with running problems. Had a 201t that was idling high. Thought it would figure itself out in time. Replaced solenoid and it was good. 5 minutes later it came back. Bought a new carb and it was good. 5 minutes later it came back. Bought a new coil and it still runs great.

My consensus is that it’s usually the solenoid. If not, it’s the coil even when it sounds like it’s a carb issue

I did a few resets when I first learned it could be done. Haven’t done one in years.

Seems like the saws don’t GAF how much I fondle them, they always figure it out on their own.

If a saw doesn’t run after mods, it’s never been that it’s needed a reset to do so. At least for me.
