What can you folks suggest for a stand to elevate the log off of the ground to debark and mill? And how do you lift the log? I have a winch and can parbuckle a log up to it.

Any good DIY suggestions?

I usually do something similar, a small log with a v notch. I use the first one as a fulcrum to get a second one under it. I’m usually solo in the woods and it’s not easy. Its probably funny to watch.

I have to wonder if it's really necessary to elevate it. I suppose it saves the knees. Here's my friend in action using his ASM with a Makita 6421:

He used these ash rips to make a fabulous table top.

If you'd like to raise the whole project up consider one of these swedish units. F2 mill by Logosol. US Dealer is bailey's on the west coast and fox forestry on the east I think.

Thanks fellas! My current plan is to use these carved up half-rounds and parbuckle the logs into 'em with my hitch mounted winch.
