The winch will lift the majority of the logs weight off the ground so that only the end will have ground contact, eliminating friction and drag weight. Yes, it’s not designed to actually carry the entire weight of the log. I’ll post some vids in action when it’s in operation. So really more of a skid than lift? At least that’s what I’m getting from description and picture
The uprights are position directly over the axles, should prevent tongue lift.Fwiw I think the upright should be slanted toward the tongue. The way it is now under tension I think it may actually lift up on the tongue. Taking away traction.
Nice work great fab. You have more vision and gumption than I do.
I’ll have a couple feet of log past the pivot point towards the tongue but if it doesn’t work then there’s going to be a whole lot of cutting and rewelding going on.Here is a technical document I hope all can interpret. When setting still yes but as you move forward the wheels become a pivot point. The drag from the log exerts a force on the arch. They higher up the more leverage.
Only dumb people refuse to consider ideas. Just talked to @Cat 525 and he gave me an idea that I never would have thought of for getting the bigger stuff out of the woods, thanks Tim.Lol I’m sure it will work just sharing thoughts
Damn, I’d have figured Tim for a pair of oxen...On the really big stuff start a combo noodle/milling cut the length of the log then drive wedges to split it, only handling half the weight then. Not recommended for knotty sections.
He ate those for lunch.Damn, I’d have figured Tim for a pair of oxen...
