My mother‘s uncle stormed Omaha beach that day on his birthday. He survived the rest of the war even after contracting TB and lived to a ripe old age. He always said not to thank him but those that didn‘t make it.
Greatest generation!
My FIL, a marine, was in the Pacific theatre. Many of his friends stormed the beaches and didn’t make it back. He lived to be 93.
May he RIP!
