I’m working this saw for friends uncle.
Came to me with low compression and I found the top toasted.
Also found that the intake clamp felt loose on disassembly. It was my immediate suspect for an air leak.
Replaced the top with a 372 xtorq kit, meteor.
Started fine and cut well. But surged on idle. So started looking for another air leak. It’s has a very slow one. Very slow and my set up on the intake is a source
PTO seal seems fine under pressure.
I did discover that the oil pump screw talk directly to the chamber. Pull those out and it direct hole to the crank. That doesn’t seems right. Anyone know??
And I’m starting to think the clamp on the boot is too big. The two barrel nuts bottom out before I get to what I think should like the right torque.
anyone come across this on these saws?
I’ve ordered a new carb kit too

The clamps are a little bit big. I would smear some sealant around the inside of the boot where it tightens onto the cylinder.

Also, without the clutch on you’ll lose pressure and vacuum around that sleeve.

The oil pump bolts go directly into the case. Need some sealant on the threads

Thank Kevin.

Just those two things makes me think this saw is on the edge of running and burning up.

As long as it 4 strokes consistently and doesn’t climb, it should be fine Better if you can seal it up though

What type of sealant would you use on the boot?

Did you change the o ring on the crank sleeve?

I use moto seal and it definitely works. The boot is actually hard to get off afterwards and needs to be pried away with a screwdriver. Any case type sealant would work fine

The type of rubber those boots are made of squashes down over time. It's a slightly softer rubber than what the intake boots on the older saws are made of. That and where Kevin
pointed out that the clamp is larger than it should be leads to lots of leaks.

It probably doesn’t help that boot sticks up slightly, or down, past the base flange to interfere with the case.
