So I just picked this up. Starts fine but stalled out a couple times and once laying flat in a face cut. Sometimes takes a few pull start after shutting it off for a few minutes.
Previous owner said it has a new ring and was tuned?
How long does it take for a ring to seat?
I tried a reset, running it full throttle will scribing down a 30’ or so beech tree.IMG_2218.jpeg

Nice saw. I hope you get the issues ironed out.

That’s a lot of carbon build up in the exhaust. That piston, while probably still functional, doesn’t look great. I’m with Greg, pressure/vac test it for an air leak and go from there.
Yes, indeed. I would add to check the ring for collapse either physically by pushing on it with a popsicle stick through the exhaust port to see if it still springs in and out or check the secondary compression. At any rate, it should still come apart to clean the carbon out of the port and the failing should present itself then. Cylinder should be checked over very carefully and sketchy looking piston for possible replacement.

I am with the others on this one. Lot of things that could be causing it to do that
even a fuel problem and if you have one of those spark testers put that in the ignition
line and make sure it is not losing it's spark for a split second.
Think the first thing I would do is a compression test by looking at the piston and ring
and see what you come up with from there. If that turns out okay I would do the carby and yes
test for an air leak but if it is I would pick it would keep doing it all the time.
It is a case of eliminating things one by one what you yourself mite think it to be.

That is the other thing which could be the tuning. Whats it running like
after it has warmed up a bit.(Is it still stopping) If you know how to
tune the carby give that ago and I know the rule of thumb is to
tune when they have warmed up but think I would try it cold to see if
it is not to lean or rich when cold.

Ya, auto tune!
So I bought it on EBay the seller claims he pulled the muffler and it looked fine before he shipped it to me. I doubt that.
He won’t say who or why it has a new ring.
Then he says I’m being disrespectful and difficult?

The clutch cover looks like Chy-na. Nothing in his description is technically a lie, but I'd return it with the piston looking like that for the price you paid. JMHO

Yep. He said the piston looked fine when he pulled the muffler before he sold it.
I ran it for 5 minutes and could tell something wasn’t right.
He said he has no control after a saw leaves him and it depends on how the fuel was mixed and how it’s ran.

I don’t think so, I run the same fuel in my 500i’s and all my ported saws.
