I didn't know where to put this so I landed it here .Much of my life I've just been at the right place at the right time and when I Ieast expect it falls right in my lap . .Today it happened to be an early John Deere 410 back hoe .Runs but needs some work,$1000 . How much work is yet to be determined .That thing weights around 14,000 pounds 66 horse power .Digs to 15 feet and lifts 5,000 pounds . My loader tractor an old 1950 Fergusen TO-20 will only lift a ton and it has no power steering. Now I need a back hoe about like I would another nose but I couldn't pass this one up . When I get going real well the hoe can stay at the house and the old Fergie can stay at my shop . Everything I own is old and most of the time I can revive them .

You couldn't say no to that Al. It's worth more than twice that in scrap. And probably 10times that in use around the house. Is it a 310 or 410? A-D? KARMA or living right they both count sir. Enjoy the toy.

Congrats! Hope you know your way around a wrench. I’m constantly working on my old tractors. And I’m no expert.

I'm not sure of what model the 410 is but assume it's early . I have a hunch it might just need the fuel system "burped " IE air in the lines some place . I just ran into it trying to help by bud Tom who owns a tree service .He has a diesel Vermeer chipper that won't slip into high speed .I had it down to some kind of solid state device I know nothing about .Vermeer is going to finish that job,I gave up. Stuff like that I try to find the service manual for rather than guessing at it.As it is I have manuals from model A Fords to Lincoln MK 7's,chainsaws,Caterpillars,you name I probabley have it .BTW this is not my first rodeo ,that was when I rebuilt an AC model B tractor at 15 years old that sits in my shop now .Made in 1938 my dad bought in 1958 and I inherited on his passing in 2006 .

The 410 is a older machine and Deere is not good at parts support so searching out used parts is essential.

From my experiance both JD and Cat do a real good job but parts are not cheap .In the past I've used "surplus" I think in North Dakota but I think they are no longer in business .Might get lucky and it's just a fuel delivery issue .I'll know in a week or two when it gets delivered .Delivery was part of the deal because I can't move much with a Ford Ranger micro truck .A riding lawn mower is about the limit .

More of the yet unsolved saga .It was told to me the machine runs if you "feed it " fuel .What that actualy means I'm not certain of .However doing some research this model uses a cylinder block mounted mechanical "lift pump" just like early autombiles .It in turn feeds the injector pump .If that's all it is those pumps are only about $30 a pop.Wouldn't that be a hoot ?Once again proving "getting lucky " can have more than one meaning .

A story .my oldest daughter who is also my youngest still talks about my first JD model A .1947 seriel number but really a 46 made from left over parts when JD only made things for WW2 . She would say dad brought this thing home in five gallon buckets ,which I did .After about a month of chasing parts the old gal got a new lease on life .FWIW there are bone yards all over the state of Ohio and Indiana .Fact one near Dayton ,right along I-70 ,80 miles south of me full of hoe's pan scrapers etc .Plus I'm about 15 -20 miles from Anderson Tractor near Bluffton Ohio .If they don't have it they'll know somebody who does .

One of my sons works for the Deere heavy equipment dealer and parts availability is spotty at best on old equipment.

He's probabley right Bill .However if a person is resourcefull you can find just about anything .I'm not boasting but I have a lot of contacts some I know in person and some only by the internet .Here's an example concerning bearings for a Partner p-100 chainsaw it was said one of the bearings was a single grooved outer race style which was no longer availible .Took me 10 minutes I found an alternative .Regarding the JD hoe I just discovered face book has several sub forums on the 410 models .So what I'm saying is info is out there you just have to find it .Besides I personally like the challange .If it were easy anybody could do it . ;)

Check for varnish issues. OVERDOSE your fuel tank with conditioner or better yet hang a jug of fuel / conditioner bled. to gravity feed the lift pump. Your lift pump has (SHOULDHAVE) a lever to manually prime/bleed the system. Early models had round canisters for fuel filter later had rectangle glass. The Roosa Master injector pump pump has a FRAGILE Check valve with issues if it sets for a long time ,, Hold the body when cracking the line loose. The transfer pump gets loose after hours of run time then doesn't get the job done as well but the motor normally would keep running once primed/started. If you take out the injectors you alreasy know it will spin easier. the early GM diesels (5.8L - V8s) Starters weren't exact swap but the OEM Nose cone (JD) would interchange on the JD350 crawler 3CYL and A believe the 450 (Not positive) But that Motor starts very easy when everything is right and it SPINS FAST.
You got a REAL DEAL on that piece of Paint..
