It's something off topic I know, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU! :worship2::thumbup:This forum and it's community are just awesome! Never before i've enjoyed a forum so much! And it is not even in my language....:eyepop: Again, thank you guys! I hope I can be a part of it for a long time. I will do my best to improve my language and content. ;)

Now, back to topic

the cylinder went back to my buddy for machining today, he is healthy again from his flu last week. I also took holiday on tuesday and wednesday to get it done.

And i'm in contact with a buddy, biggest husky dealer in our region, maybe I get a 572 test saw before christmas (unfortunately i must leave it stock :taptap:). If it works, i can compare it to my own 462 (with heated handles) that will show up in the end of november, would be a very interesting match up in terms of sheer (stock) engine performance, because the battle for handling and weight is definitely over in my opinion.

I think I can speak for most and say we are glad to have you. As far as getting better at language :couch: I'm the wrong one for casting stones lol.

I miss the simple stuff too Nate. My 51 Ford F1 had a SBC in it with one wire to the alternator, one to the HEI, and two on the starter. Temp and oil were mechanical connections. A single vacuum line to the transmission, and a speedo cable.......

What else did it need?

Running boards?

Indentions in the pedals so your nubs wouldn’t slip off?

We need a bit more specifics there O Grate Won.

I'd say StephK87 is certainly in the World's Cat Bird seat right now. Simply perfect, both new saws coming out and he talks with ease of the availability and I'm having trouble sleeping, thinking of when both saws will arrive Stateside.

Go Steph! And thanks.

Elm, Black Birch, Norway Maple, etc are very stringy woods that are not conducive to being split by hand held devices.

I like the Fiskars X-27 on about any wood that will "pop". Some woods will split much easier when dry &/or cold.

I remember renting a hydraulic splitter for Elm, and it did not work either! Ended up noodling it with the 044. (The newer hydros with the cutter/splitter blades work much better than the old ones with the traditional wedge).

They cut what ever they can't split.

anyone have any experience with this bad boy?

http://www2.fiskars.com/Products/Gardening-and-Yard-Care/Axes-and-Mauls/IsoCore-8-lb-Maul-36

I've tried 4.5lb 6lb, 8lb and 12lb

The 8 lb seems to be the sweet spot. I don't get to split nice beech and oak all the time.

try using a 4-5lb on american elm it will make you think.

I took a dozen swings with one this spring when SVK from AS stopped by my place. I was still hopping along on one foot, so I can't offer much of a comprehensive evaluation, but it seemed real nice for the price. I like that their tools have the lifetime warranty on the handle, and it did seem to offer pretty good shock absorbing. Better than the X27, I think. They were on sale recently at our local Fleet Farm, but I managed to resist the temptation to purchase one. Now that i have a hydraulic splitter, it wouldn't get used very often. Like Mike said, anything too big for the X27 is likely to get noodled into a size i can get onto the splitter.

I have two of them. I have two properties and it was always undoubtedly at the one I wasn't when I needed it so I bought a second one. I really like them. It seems to hit very hard and transmit less vibration than expected. It is a true two piece isolated design. I know this as the older one has the tapered plastic piece below the head missing due to some miserable hickory I was splitting. I tend to use it more than the x27 now.

I have it's cousin in a Special Edition Super Split. Basically a powered maul... I wouldn't mind trying that though as sometimes the best stress relief (and a good workout) is hand splitting. I like my X27 but there's a lot of wood that I cut in which it doesn't do the greatest, especially with the knots. I always figured if you combined an axe and a maul together, you'd have a good tool.

If the axe 'feels' right in your hands when using it I have no problem dropping some coin on a GB that if looked after will give many decades of service. I have a couple of Fiskars & while they do the job well, they just are not the same as a hand forged well balanced maul/axe. If that GB is $165 in the states I bet it would be close too 3 bills here. I still want one...
Try Ray Mears site, I got a gb hand axe for a lot less than locally in Oz, shipping might be a bit but just paid $130 for 22kg of rigging gear from UK to Oz with ups so worth a look. GB prices are nuts here, stupidly overpriced
