Got a little 2 aggressive with some to course sand paper cleaning transfer. Could this be saved? This method has worked for me in past, just got bit heavy handed.

You talking about the shiny spot at the bottom? The rings don’t go that far down.

My take on it is, it was already broken when the repair was attempted, it didn't work out so, get a new one like the majority of shops would have done in the first place. At least you tried, not every one can be saved, some are just destined to go to the scrap metal bin.

The plating is thin as mentioned they are tough to clean because of it. you could probably use it to test some porting ideas. It would run but I wouldn't want to run it real long.

It’s possible it’s still usable. The ring/rings should still ride over that and I’m sure your efforts left a nice chamfer.

As long as you have enough skirt width to cover the defect.

If you’re porting it, you may be able to raise and widen there anyway.

Next time, Try acid on a Qtip with a big dose of common sense and safety glasses/gloves. Then hand sand the residual.

That’s my method. If you see too much fizzing in one small spot, neutralize ASAP and inspect.
