I use a small square file. Just make sure your filing the correct side! It's a little harder to get precision measurements on the cast key. I mark it with a fine sharpie and divide it into thirds. I file to the first line and that it!

I use a small triangular file, and mark where I want to remove fist, or you can get "lost" easy! Generally shoot for .020 off.
