Picked a running Husqvarna 351 today on the cheap. Piston looks good through the exhaust. It may have an aftermarket top end. Did any of the OEM top end kits(350,351,346,353) have screw on transfer covers? Still has the plastic clamp intake, will changed. If I do happen to change the to end, okay to go with the latest 346 OEM kit? Anything else to be worried about with model 2002?

If you have transfer covers its either the 45m/m 350 or 353 cyl. the 350 will have a concave piston top & the 353 will be flat top.
The 351 has 44m/m cyl. open port, it does not have transfer covers.
Some 350s also came with the 44 m/m open port.
I have two 351s they both now wear 346 top ends.

Right on old guy... I thought about the covers after I wrote that... I wasn't sure if the early 350s we're or not. Been a while since I had a 44mm....

I'll know more after it gets a bath. Oem 346 kits are cheap if I go that route. But which one 42mm 44mm. Way to many choices for this saw.

You're gonna have a good running little saw when you get done. Good opportunity for a rebuild/conversion thread:)

The OE 346 cylinder is NLA, but there are two different 44.3mm NE cylinders, one drilled for a decomp and one that is not.

OE are 42mm I take it. If I get the new one with tapped for decomp is a buck or 2 cheaper than the Non decomp. I have a lead on an 42mm new in the box.

Are you sure the OE 346 kit is NLA?? I just got one from GKS barely a year ago when I overhauled my employers OE346. Went with the OE kit because the NE kits were backordered at the time...this was probably last February or so, right after the prices dropped. I did a build thread on it here.

So what is the difference between the 350 and 351? I had never heard of the 351 till recently. Mag case or plastic chassis?

Jeremy it can be made to run good if it has a 350 top end I just did a 2150.
