I like/hate Black Locust. Great hard wood, but I hate the thorns. Had one that dropped a large branch on the side of my house, unfortunately I was deployed when it happened and my wife had to coordinate getting it taken down. Found someone who would do it for the firewood, but for years afterwards the thing kept trying to sprout back up. They do grow fast, so that is bonus!

If you treat the stump with a systemic herbicide within 15 minutes of felling it usually kills the root system.

I wish I knew that 15 years ago when the tree came down, luckily I moved away from that house a couple of years ago, so it is someone else's problem now.
