I am working on a friends Husqvarna 128LD. His grandson was using it and it came home nonrunning. It can be easily started with the choke on. It will run slightly above idle at partial choke and SUDDENLY stops. If you try to rev it up, it seems to lean out with a burst of high RPM's and then stops. I have replaced the following in the fuel system: New in tank filter, Both gas lines from tank to Carb., New Chinese carburetor and new spark plug. Also the engine will backfire at times.
Also weird, the kill switch would not work all the time. I checked it with an ohm meter it varied in continuity: worked some times , failed to work other times. I replaced that also.
I am going to do a deep dive into the intake system to look for a leak, look at the crankcase for a leak and then onto the electrical ignition system. I will look at the coil and for a sheared key which may cause a timing issue. ( Not sure what this model uses for producing spark)
Are there any known weak areas in this model? Things to look for? Tips?
It seems to have ample compression judging by the pull cord.
