I thought of another option. If one decided not to tackle them, other than finding a skilled feller, you might could find a logger with a skidder that could just go in and push them or winch them over. Although, he'd tear up my woods getting in there.

OTOH, I got three down yesterday looking up a lot, lol, with no issues other than No. 4, I didn't get down because I made the back cut at an angle instead of horizontal and it came into the back of the face cut at the same level, too low. I screwed up that back cut. I was losing too much light at sunset, I just left it for another day.

I was surprised to find termites when I made the face cut on one of the trees, and it still had (dead) leaves on it!

that thing will fall. Very dangerous situation. Hope your woods are secured and noone gets in there. If it falls on some trespasser he, or his estate, will own everything you have. It could even fall on you when walking up to it. Just sayin

+1 on the very dangerous leaving a tree which you already started on. I do not know the situation, but I've heard Louisiana is inhabited.

It's not uncommon for oak to hold it's leaves throughout the winter until new buds push them off so it makes sense that it would do the same after dying. I'd fall another tree into that one you had to abort if you can. Don't get too worked up about it, shít happens.

Read through this thread it will help you with your technique.https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...hare_tid=15694&share_fid=1392778&share_type=t

Try the GOL style of cutting. It's one of the safest and easiest methods. It can't be used in every situation but it will get most of them down. Watch some videos if you haven't already, it couldn't hurt. Don't get nerved up because that's when you screw up. If you have any questions you can PM me and I'll try to answer them.

Dead trees are the most dangerous ones to take down. I have gotten to old and slow to take a dead tree down, be carful

The last tree I took down, about a month ago, really brought home how old (72) and slow I've become. It was a dangerous drop that had to be a precision drop to avoid all the dead branches from hitting anything. I spent about an hour and a half clearing a path and making sure all the cuts were right. Then slowly working the wedges in. Everything went right, but afterwards I figured I won't be doing anything like that again. - Just too damn old and slow...
