Homelite xl98 project

So a buddy of mine gave me this xl98 and said it doesn't run ...Its gonna be a winter time project for me .
I had some time today to dig into it and found some not so good news .
Pistons toast with a chunk out of it and a broken ring . It also has a pretty good size chunk missing outta the cylinder on the exhaust side so I'm not to sure it can be saved either .
I noticed the connecting rod bearings very sloppy side to side and also up and down so I'm thinking this may have been at least one of the causes of the damage here ..I'm sure there may have been others .
What's everyone's opinion..fix or not ?

You can probably find some cheap XL-98 parts if you go sniffing around. Homelite made a million of these things and in the early 80's, it seemed like every
excavation contractor had one or two kicking around in the back of their truck. I know there's re-pop pistons available, not sure on a cylinder. But I think
the 925 cylinder is the same or close.

Not having any luck finding parts im wondering if my cylinder is salvageable.
It has two chuncks missing from below and above the exhaust port ...the one below being larger then the one above ...here is a pic .
Let me know what you expert's think
