Help me design my saw shack...

Oh a dedicated saw bench would be nice........maybe some day.

I like a high slanted shelf with meters on it. Small distance below another shelf for leads. I do electrical on the same bench.

And put outlets.....air and electrical under the bench also.

And if the work is small.......a slide for your waist like a watchmakers.

Yeh, I néed to contain all the saw stuff to one area. That way I can utilize the barn for larger projects.

I do like the slide idea, could come in handy at certain times,

Thank you for the offer, it is already wired with outlets up at the top of the wall. Probably only need to add 1 outlet for the bench where I plan to plug in my impact charger.

I'm in the middle of buildinga new shop and it's gonna have a small sealed off room just for grinding.
No matter how clean and careful you are everything gets aluminum on it.

After years of it my hands can't take anymore shavings from everything being covered in it. The steel mufflers are the worst so I'm keeping all of that in a small 10x10 room with a stainless steel bench and slick formica walls.

If you don't already wear something to cover you when grinding start before your full of metal shavings.

Don't forget lights,when you think you have to many put up a few more

Have you ever thought of a down draft table like woodworkers use?

Hopefully I will be up to this same task sooner than later myself. Will be trying to make all the tools needed as handy as possible. I saved a picture of panteliss bench that he posted on What's on your bench? thread a while ago. Hope he's OK with me re-posting. The one thing I liked the best is the windows for natural light to come in, like the saw filer rooms of sawmills I've seen, nothing beats natural light. Obviously organization is key to efficiency. Will probably come no where near this level, but I think if a guy can even get close where you find yourself automatically reaching in a spot for what's needed next, and it is there, you'll be doing all right.

Those are really handy. I have a shorter one mounted behind mine.

Move the air compressor outside. Build a small enclosure around it. Put a heater on the crankcase. Plug in the heater late fall, unplug early spring. My compressor has been outside for 25 years without an issue. 25 years of not having to listen to that godamn thing.

Most every lathe operator I know has the bench cuddling their butt. Good to lean against too.

I have my lathe on 6" stilts to get apron controls at my hand height and the spindle where I can see it without bending over. It makes life much easier but it does put the foot brake 7" or so off the ground.

Makes all the difference in the world...I've got a side by side, couple of jam box radio/cd players, and a tv with a good antenna that picks up anywhere from 17-19 of all the local network channels and then some.

I built my main workbench table with shelves I believe at either 41"/42" inches to the top. I'm 6'3" so it helps me a lot. I caught three workbench stools with backs on them that adjust from 29"-35" from Northern Tool on sale and then used a $25 coupon on top of that that...paid $100 for the three adjustable stools, comfortable, and they work like a champ.

That's what people who really grind use.
Our grinders will bury a 1" ball burr in stainless........grindings by the bucket.

My Graziano sits on stilts. 2400 lbs holds them down nicely.

Little food for thought if you build a stand-alone work table and shelve the back of it, that you can walk all the way around. Workbench top is a 2x4 framed out radiology x-Ray room, solid core wooden door. The shelves on the back side are from some 2x8's I had loitering around in the shop. On the backside of the shelves I furred it out around the perimeter and the center top to bottom with some ripped down 1x's and peg boarded the entire backside to hang tools, etc. I just stuck some different peg board hangers in it for chits and grins when this old pic was taken. It's pretty well organized and slam full with hand tools, wrench sets, etc now.

Here's the NT adjustable height workbench stools. Pretty comfortable padded stools with backrests.

VERY Nice.

Going start the garage cleaning tomorrow. I have an extra set of hands stopping by, should make a pretty good dent...

Once I get everything cleaned, I can finish sheeting the ceiling and paint. Get all the lights up, then start the bench.

Looks like I have to go back to work after thanksgiving. Probably be February before I get saw time back home.
