Ok it is a woodings, Im re hanging it and I’m feeling pretty dumb. The eye is larger at one end than the other. The larger end was at the top on the old handle. I am guessing that was correct and gives room for the wedge to expand the handle into the eye holding it down to where the handle has been seated in the head?
Hasp? Getting it further down on the shoulder I’m guessing?
I don’t like modern axe handles they are thick and hardly anyone makes a true fawns foot. The shape and balance were perfect, tried to salvage the handle but wouldn’t stay tight for poop! Will save it for a boys axe head.
House handles hand picked no lacquer.
Chisel rasp and sandpaper created a very light peel all the way around.
Need to wire brush the head, what do y’all use after wire brushing tonhelp keep from rusting again? I’ve heard of BLO, Wax, plain oil.
One heavy coat BLO rubbed till it got hot to the touch then wiped off letting it cure will decide on how many more later. Treating like a gunstock.......
