Besides a dull blade, Frank was having some problems with his Super Pro Mac 125. No real help on the YT forums mostly trolls. What's it doin'? I think an air leak when the saw gets warm, the seal blows by......

Wish I could help, but if I had that kind of trouble I would be looking for a new milling saw.

he has his documentary in fast motion when the saw is running so nobody can hear what the thing is doing. It could be any one of a number of problems but he isn't here to talk to. I'm not sure what you expect us to do about it.

also tell Frank it's called a bar, not a blade. Maybe just tell Frank to come here and we'll help him. My feeling is that maybe the saw should go to a reputable shop though. Frank is a wonderful man with a gentle soothing voice. I wish him and his big yellow saw the best, but the situation is difficult with no information to work with.

It's an old McCulloch, that's why it's so hard to start. I refined my vocabulary, as a boy, trying to start one. As one of my logger friends said, "Oh, hell yes! Them's the hardest to start things I've ever seen in my life. I've thrown a McCulloch just as far as I could many times."

No doubt there are tricks and/or techniques to starting an old McCulloch which neither of us knew. At this point in both of our lives, we don't need to know, neither. I have saws that start easily now days, and am thankful for them. My old friend is long retired, nearly 90, and has a Stihl 036 AV that reliably starts.

A carb rebuild would probably help for a start .In addition that thing is running so rich it should be blowing black smoke like it's burning soft coal .
A 125 or any other reed valve for that does not start hard as a rule if they are in tune .Loaded up usually a 125 will blow a tank of gas in 35- 40 minutes but in that length of time it will cut a lot of wood .It will also give the operator a good work out .

Thanks, Al.

Just a couple little observations, Gentlemen: one, 'he should get a new saw'. OK how about you should get *b-word slapped into reason. He inherited it from his Uncle. Two, this guy from Oregon, Frank makes excellent videos. I expect some of this crap on Stack Overflow from computer whiz when some body will post and hasn't done any of their own homework. There, it is a rule to state everything you know about the problem and everything you've tried to fix it. Here the discussion and resolution of problems follows a looser path. My first instinct tells me to message Frank and have him join this community, but I'm not going to embarass somebody with his level of initiative by subjecting him to it. What I like about Frank's channel is that he gets professional results by sticking with a project and he's not shy about admitting his shortcomings and showing the obstacles and mistakes that come along with an audacious approach to life; something which America has sadly lost. Keep in mind he is using his chainsaw even though it's forty-four years old are you using yours?

That being said, it's not even my problem to start with. I mill with a Baker Bandsaw and could have easily riftsawn or quarter sawed Frank's Maple log five times in the time it took him to load his truck and drive to Washington State..

See below the overlay Frank edited into his video. He built his own CNC machine from scratch, I have no question he'll solve the minor McCulloch issues without any help from the community here. Besides, he's in the Pacific NW. Some old timer locally with the knowledge of Al Smith will be willing to help. So for any one gunning at status with your peers, try status amongst experts, it is more rewarding. (But it takes work.)
