I traded Al an HDA 87 that was good for an 87 with a stripped screw on the metering side of the carb. Its got a little bite and holds but spins too. Was wondering if anyone solved a problem like this in the past and what they did? Does Walbro make different length metering screws so that I may get one longer? Put thread locker on it? Don't want to bring it to a machine shop if I dont have too. What size thread is it and can I get a die small enough? Thanks.

It's the metering lever screw that's stripped?

If this is for your own saw, and you want a quick fix, you can try this. If you have some like 18 awg stranded wire, take a couple strands of the wire and set them in the hole, then thread the screw in. The copper will conform to the threads on both sides and take up space allowing you to tighten it. I wouldn't do this for a saw I was selling. Also since it is a rare carb, I think I would fill the hole with jb weld, drill and retap to the same size. If you need to know the size I can check mine.

Yeah, or maybe I could contact Walbro and ask them? I dont know if the metering screws that Walbro puts on their carbs are the same size. If I could get 1mm more I might be good, don't know.

You really want 3-4 threads caught good for longevity. I would try the copper wire trick for the outside screw for sure on my own saw. Bet it takes care of it for you.
