Taurus seems pretty solid these days, I'm a big fan of their .38 and .357 wheelguns which of course they have been making forever. Likewise, the G2 and G3 series do really well. Seems like most of their trouble happens with the oddball or really new guns.

My biggest gripe with Taurus is that quite often they will replace a gun outright instead of fixing it. This sounds bass-ackwards, complaining about getting a new gun, but it sux if you really like that particular gun and they don't make it anymore. My Taurus 83 is an awesome six shooter, basically a more heavy duty S&W 15 at half the price and just as accurate. And if I had to send it in for repair, I think there is a very high chance they would tell me to pick out a replacement. There are many nice guns in their lineup, but nothing I would like better than my 83. So, if I ever have problems with it, I'll probably have to fix it myself or take it to the gunsmith.

Welt, this is gonna be the last new toy for awhile. Just bailed out of layaway this Taurus 605 .357. Tight lockup, low barrel/cylinder gap, surprisingly good trigger pull and doesn't look to have been opened up or fired much. Should be a good pocket piece with my .38 +P's that my other Taurus wheel guns like so much. All of which have been really good guns. I'm not much on their bottom feeders, but I really like Taurus .38 and .357 revolvers. When I worked at the gun shop the defect rate for Taurus wheel guns was really low, I remember seeing more Rugers and Smiths come back in fact.

FN always was strange to me they priced their pistols at Walther or near HK prices and were mostly mim parts and just weren't appealing to me.
They finally introduced a more affordable pistol but it'll land in the 400-450.00 range.
The big draw is internal hammer fired with polymer mags that's supposed to be under 20.00 16 and 20rnd

They look much like my tisas px9 to me
Don't know how they can beat the established less expensive CZ p10 series,Ruger rxm, smiths Sd9
Ruger american, Taurus gx or tx series
I'm really liking the tisas px9 and it was under 300.00

Trying to compete on price usually doesn't work out too well. The 309 might be a great gun but the sub-500.00 market is super crowded and just keeps getting more so. Seems like we are also reaching the point where the overwhelming choice here is a gen. 3 Glock clone. It just works, and not many people are going to consider something else which *might* be a little bit better in some ways but can't take advantage of the huge aftermarket support that already exists.

I gave the 605 a good cleaning and oiling last night, I really don't think it has been fired or carried much. Very consistent .005-.006 barrel-cylinder gap and no indication that it has been disassembled or modified in any way. Today at lunch I took it for a quick test drive at 10 yards with two of my favorite heavy duty .38 loads: 3.4 grains Hodgdon Clays/Lee 358-150-SWC and 3.5 grains Clays/Lee 358-158-RF, both with CCI primers. I found it is dead on with the 150 grain boolit and a wee bit high with the 158 grain (actually 162 grains) boolit. I'm getting to the bottom of my can of Clays, so probably will try to find replacement loads with Tightgroup. I'm really glad that this revolver looks like it isn't going to turn into a long term project, which is my usual outcome when I buy another gun!
