My cousin used to work at Opus One winery in Napa. She arranged a tour of the winery for me and my brother. Impressive. At the end of the tour, they opened a couple of bottles and OMG, just Incredible.

I just looked up the price, >30 years since. $455 per bottle. It was and still is a little out of my budget. LOL. At the price I had better have an out of body experience, involving flying and some triple X.

I took a tour of the Samuel Adams brewery in Massachusetts with a few of my coworkers. I don't drink, but figured I would drive for them. We got there for the last tour with about 10 other people...and waited and waited, finally one of the workers came through and their eyes got real big realizing they had forgotten about us. We got a really short tour because they wanted to get us to the tasting room where they started pouring samples of a bunch of different brews they had going on. My coworkers were going crazy over how good the beer tasted and when they found out I wasn't drinking they were more than happy to take my sample. It ended up being a great time for them. Later on we went to a bar downtown and they ordered the same beers but said that they didn't taste as good as they did at the brewery.

For those vineyards and wineries that make it, they make it BIG. I make my own wine now, and it is quite simple. Yet it is all about the grapes. I have Oregon Grapes that grow (on my property and close by) in abundance yearly, and it is without much effort to make 30+ gallons or more per year at a few dimes per bottle. My biggest expense is the sugar. A 25lb bag of sugar makes about 60 bottles. Cheap!

For wineries it is a cash cow easy money-making business.
