So, the deal of the day is a Golf piston that fits a 550xp. Good, bad, ugly?? I have no intention of grinding on it to improve it if needed, so if stock or another brand is EXTREMELY superior please let me know.

I`ve been contemplating the entire cylinder/piston kit but I have not had time to take it apart and evaluate the cause of the scoring and hate to buy unneeded parts if the cylinder can be cleaned up. I suppose $13 isn`t much to take a chance with so I`ll post up some comparison pics when it arrives...

13$ is well worth the gamble, since OEM piston cost more then P&C cost in US you cant loose anything by giving the Golf piston a chance.

OEM piston cost 100$ in Norway, P&C kit cost 360$.
Wish we had your guys prices on P&C, 120$ is a bargain.

Anyone know why Meteors isnt making 550 pistons?

Well....it's a deal if it has the port timing on the strato cutouts at the right height.

It's tough to find one of these jugs that will clean up if it's scored bad.

it doesnt look like they doing any new pistons, dont know why, maybe their future is to quit the whole piston section.

I thought it was just me, most of the time I have no problem sanding KS&Mahle jug, those 550 jug just seems to take less before they are ruined.

Maybe meteors paying attention to all the oem price drops hate to see them go. I've had nothing but great service out of their stuff.

While I can not speak to the exact scenario here, I would say that if some minor difference is noted, it would not scare me from giving it a try, as I have been having a good string of luck with AM pistons (Golf included) in reclaimed cylinders, even though piston was a bit different than the OEM ones they replaced. So far the vast majority have boosted performance and not hindered it. Also I would add that I tried to "mock up" the squish scenario with OEM piston while waiting for AM one to arrive, this did not work as piston height was not always the same, learned to do squish with exact parts to be used. Whole P&C AM kits are another hit and miss story however. Would like to see what you find out here, not always fun taking a gamble, only is when you win. SS

I know what you mean Got a no name stihl ts 400 cylinder kit in looked fine except no exhaust holes were drilled.
They gave me 75 percent back instead of returning it.
Tapped it myself works fine 8.00 i think.

I`m about 1.5 hours north of you. I lease a farm in Glenville, too. Maybe one day you, Dall, and I can meet up down there this summer.
