Generator lost power on one leg

I went to fire up my generator as i try to do one a month if not using. I dont usually pkug anything just run for a bit and shut off. For what ever reason i thought might as well test the power to find out only one leg is making power.
Any thoughts on what to look for? Hoping something simple like a bad wire conection or something. Inused it last in the fall and it ran my welder just fine with the 220v.

This happened to my Generac 20kW last year and it was the 100A breaker in the generator. One pole had gone bad somehow. Replaced the breaker and all was well.

The guy I talked to said there's other (worse) possible causes like the rotor/stator inside the unit, but I'd check the breaker first.

Thats what happened to mine. Just went out and did some poking around. One side of the 220 breaker went bad. Gonna get one ordered today for it.

same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, I found a video on youtube on how to test the brushes, rotor, stator and voltage regulator, its pretty easy, i found out my stator is bad and NLA through Honda.

Found this one but.dont think its what im looking for. It says 30 amp but the trip amps is only 13.5.
One in it is 37.5.

I emailed champion to see if i can get one through them but havnt heard back yet.

I used this video to help me diagnose my generator, I think it will cover most makes and models of conventional generators, I am not sure if it is revelant to inverter style units.

Well champion got back to me. They must assume everyone knows nothing lol. They asked me to send them a picture of the switch to makesure it is turned on.
Wrote them back with what i found. Hopfully hear back soon. I just want to order the part to get it going again.

Got the new breaker switch. It fixed the problem. Only thing i was concerrned about was is it normal for the wire connection posts to be wiggly? They are looser then the old ones. Maybe its normal but seems little odd they have moement.

I am not an electrician, but I play one at home.

Make sure the lugs are rated for the AWG of the wire. As long as they are, the wire is inserted correctly (e.g. centered under the clamping portion) and the lugs are tightened fully, you should be good to go.
