That's true to a point. However, no country remains rich by shifting 1's and 0's around digital ledger sheets on Wall Street. It's increasingly hard to buy American because the 'Third Way' crowd have been deindustrializing the US for the past 30 years. You have to manufacture goods domestically to create actual middle class wealth and benefit upward mobility. The question is, do you want manufacturing back in the United States; or would you rather buy cheap garbage and float Red China's boats? It's short-term pain for long-term gain. I've been harping about this since Ross Perot talked about NAFTA and 'a giant sucking sound'. He was right. George Bush Sr and Bill Clinton were wrong.
Personally, I go out of my way to buy local and American-made whenever possible. Even if I pay more, buying local and American, employees people in MY community and helps fund local my local government. That benefits me as an individual.
