Ok so I got a big bore pop up for this saw and did some port work on it, opened up the lowers some to match a little better to the piston and cleaned the piston up and took a little meat off of it. Numbers landed at
Intake, transfers, exhaust
79/122/102
Saw seems to run pretty decent

It will like more ex and transfer duration. I’m usually around 162 ex duration, 99 opening.

Went back in and raised the transfers and exhaust haven't had a chance to put it in any decent sized wood yet.

You raise the transfers also ? To about 120-119 ?

Yup, I've found that the BB cylinders are tough to get to run well as the lower transfers are too narrow.

If you take it apart again check the exit angles on the uppers. A lot of the AM jugs are aimed almost straight across the piston crown instead of towards the intake. It’s a PITA to grind them back to the proper angles. Especially 395. But it’s worth it.

It’s not that hard with the right tools. ;)

Hehe. Well the contra angle hand piece didn’t work out for me so well on the last one. I burned the gears in two heads. My mistake for sure. Open to technical recommendations. 395 has a very curved tunnel. I can’t seem to reach that back bend very well.

1/4” ball burr from the base side seems to help shape that area. I normally use one in a #8 handpieces but a longer shaft burr would work fine in even a #30.
