I was planning to get a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 for my .257 Roberts, they go for around $180.00 here. I discovered that Fujinon (same company that makes film and cameras) also offers a line of scopes. They are made in the Phillipines like Vortex and Nikon, and look eerily similar to the former's Diamondback line. Found some good deals on Fleabay for them, got a 4 12x40, 3-9x40, and an 8x binocular for a little over $200.00 delivered.
We sell the Diamondback 4-12x40 at my side job shop, and they look eerily close to the Fuji. In fact, the way the inner bag is twisted at the end and closed with a rubber band
is identical.
The scope itself is eerily similar. I haven't been able to examine them side by side, but parts such as the ocular bell, magnification ring, and included lens covers seem identical. The reticle is a dead ringer or super close. Next shift I work at the shop, I'll see if I can take some side by side photos. There is a Weatherby Vanguard .308 sitting on the rack that it would look good on too!
